Vasas squeezes Ferencváros

First place Fradi won in overtime with Fehérvár winning the Fejér County derby.

Ferencváros controlled the first period as they had a number of scoring chances but Vasas goalie Koitmaa stood his ground. In the second period the home team was much more disciplined in the defensive end as well as creating chances in the offensive end. After two periods of hockey the game remained scoreless. Ferencváros started to press again in the third period but they were not able to score. In the 50th minute of play Vasas scored a power play as Székely Mádai set up Barnabás Majoross for the one timmer. Vasas had chance to double the lead but Pleszkán made the save. Minutes later the game was tied up at 1-1 was Richárd Tóth set up Adrián Tóth for the tieling goal. In overtime both goalies had to make saves but in the end it was Attila Pavuk scoring the game winner.

Balázs Ladányi, head coach, Vasas: We might have played our best game this season. This was the first points of the season that we picked up against Ferencváros, this will be our goal on Saturday against Gyergyó as well. Our second period was great but the first and third periods were not bad either. There was some things we asked from our players that we did not get but it is nothing to complain about. We did everything to win today, we need to continue doing this.

Szabolcs Fodor, head coach FTC: I was not surprised that today was a tight game. Vasas has shown that they can beat anyone especially on home ice. We played well. We stuck to our system. We woke up after they scored their goal, we managed to tie the game up, we had the chance to take three points today but in the end the game was decided in overtime.

Dunaújváros Acélbikák-Fehérvári Titánok 1-4 (0-0, 1-3, 0-1)
The two teams were racing for sixth place in the standings. Fehérvár was the stronger team in the scoreless first period. The second period brought a faster pace as Péter Németh opened up the scoring in the period for the home team, however Fehérvár took over the scoring later in the period as Bence Szabó and Mark Bennett both found the back of the net with Jack Lewis making it 3-1 after 40 minutes. In the early part of the third period Lewis scored his second goal of the game on the power play as Fehérvár picked up teh 4-1 derby win.

Corey Bricknell, head coach, Dunaújváros: We played well in the in the first period but after that something happened to as we made some decisions that we should not have. In the third period we started to work again, but by then it was too late.

Dávid Kiss, head coach, Fehérvári Titánok: The first period was balanced and DAB started off well in the second but we were able to score goals and we woke up. Our special teams played well today.
