MAC Sweeps Brasov to make it to the ERSTE Liga finals

MAC Budapest has made it back to the league finals for the third straight season after taking the fourth game of the best of seven series against Brasov. During the four games Bence Bálizs picked up shutouts in the first and fourth game of the series.

For the opening game of the series Bence Bálizs started in net for MAC with Patrik Polc being the netminder for Brasov. After a scoreless first period the opening goal of the game was not scored until the 35th minute when Jared Brown scored a power play goal. In the first minute and five second of the third period Balázs Somogyi scored twice to open up a 3-0 lead, minutes later Brance Orbán scored to make it 4-0 for MAC.

For game two Brasov gave Zoltán Tőke the start in net in the place of Polc. Árpád MIhály scored from just outside of the crease to give Brasov the early 1-0 lead. Mihály would score two more unanswered goals in the second period as he had a natural hat trick by the 28th minute of the second period and Brasov had a 3-0 lead. However Somogyi scored on the two man advantage and minutes later followed this up with a power play goal as Brasov took a one goal lead into the third period. It only took six second in the third period for Tamás Pozsgai to score from the slot and to tie the game up 3-3. With exactly two minutes left in the game Jesse Dudás scored from the blueline to give MAC their first lead of the game. Tomas Klempa would tack on an empty net goal to make it 5-3.

With the injuries that were picked up in the first two games of the series MAC travelled with only three complete lines to Brasov for game three. Brasov made a change for game three of the series in net as Polc was back between the pipes and Tőke as the backup. Brown scored on the first shift of the game to make it 1-0. Less than two minutes later Kirill Knyazev tie the game up for the home team with a power play goal. Late in the period Somogyi put MAC back on top with István Terbócs and Mathias Mannsson getting the assists. After a scoreless second period Brown scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-1 and putting MAC one win away from the ERSTE Liga finals.

As it had been all series Brasov switched goalies again, Tőke started in net with Polc as the backup. Gergely Tóth scored twice in the first period, the first one was a redirected Jesse Dudás shot with the second one was a tap in from just outside of the crease. It was 3-0 in the first minute of the second period when Scott Macaulay scored from the slot. MAC pulled away later in the period as Somogyi scored a power play goal and Brown scored on the two man advantage as MAC was up 5-0 after two periods. Orbán scored the only goal of the third period for the 6-0 win.
