Three teams would like to join the league starting from the 2018-19 season. Vasas, DEAC and Gyergyószentmiklós presented their bids to the league members.

On Wednesday at the league meeting Levente Szuper presented the Vasas SC bid first. Their presentation outlined that the club had a strong technical background, stable youth system and the infrastructure that is needed to have a top flight team. One of the goals of the team is to build up a strong fan base. The core of the team would made up of the players that are coming out of the youth system. They have a number of big name partners who would financially support the club.

András Fodor the DEAC hockey president presented the Debrecen club’s proposal. The bid was based on the support of the university club and their close work with sports. The goal would be that the players would also get a university education as they play for the club. The university and the city would be providing the financial support that is needed. Debrecen has a great youth system from where DEAC could draw from.

Gyergyó HK was represented by Tihamér Parti and presented the teams bid. With the team turning 70 years old they would want to rejoin the league for the anniversary. The sport of ice hockey is a large part of the daily life of the city, the club is expecting to have pact stands. They have a large youth system, which would be a great motivation to eventually play in the pro team. The financials would be covered by local businesses.

The other league members discussed the applications of the three teams. Once the new applicants could guarantee the proper financial support the league turned their final recommendation to the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation technical committee. After the technical committee’s final decision the HIHF board will vote.
